A little nonsense at Christmas

Christmas is one of the only times of the year when a little nonsense is common. Whether it is reading the dumb jokes in the bonbons or wearing reindeer antlers,or dressing your car up as a reindeer or singing silly songs ,it is all permitted with good grace.
Memories come flooding back to a time when money was found in the pudding. My father always pulled a pound note from his hand and pretended he'd found it in the pudding. We laughed every year!My daughter always wanted to play the song of "All I want for Christmas is my 2 front teeth" and whistle at the S's.When I was teaching my classes always liked doing the booms in "6 white boomers" or make up other words to well known carols.Play some music this Christmas and enjoy the silly side of things.
Have yourself a little nonsense at Christmas, enjoy the fun times. I've made a card for this post featuring a well known Christmassy nonsense song.  Blessings to all of you from Julene.

Love the Lyrics

Morning........

BB here on this horribly cold and windy Summer's day ( Mother Nature has really screwed things up this year). While looking out the window the song 'Cruel Summer' by Bananarama came into my head - yes I know i'm showing my age now but it got me thinking as to how we do relate lyrics to our lives and especially the chorus.

So what is a Lyric?

In ancient Greece, a poem accompanied by a musical instrument, usually a lyre. Although the word is still often used to refer to the songlike quality in poetry, it is more generally used to refer to any short poem that expresses a personal emotion, be it a sonnet, ode, song, or elegy.

So there we go.........a personal emotion - how true is that?
I have a page that expresses how I feel about myself (maybe only on 364 out of 365 days of the year)

The song is 'Don't Wanna Be' by Gavin McGraw
My LO design is inspired by my good mate Leanne Jago

Here are the lyrics that I have used for my journalling?

So what Lyric describes you?
How does it define you?
I'd love to get to know YOU and how YOU feel about YOU

Party Anthems

My brother and his fiance had their house warming the other week. Was a great night, got to meet my BIL's family, see my other brother for the first time in months {he's in the navy based in Cairns but was on leave}, and watch some awesome film clips on Max {Fotxtel/Austar}.

There were many of us mingling in the kitchen watching Rock Anthems, so of course a conversation persued over what song was going to be #1. Well of course the young ones were saying thinks like Britney Spears "Ooops I did it again" and Hansens "Mmm Bop". Others were calling for Chisel and AC/DC. But personally when I was a younge party goer there were two main Anthems.

Firstly Don McLeans "American Pie" was always played at stumps {midnight for our small country town}. Once we heard those first few beats we knew it was last drinks.

But the song that really describes our younger party days is definitely The Eagles "Heartache Tonight". The song describes a typical friday or saturday night to a T! Hearts being broken, fights breaking out all part and parcel of a weekend night in a small town.

Of course there were other must have songs like The Violent Femmes "Blister in The Sun" and "Add it Up", anything by Australian Crawl, Guns n Roses or Chisel was a must too.

But no night was complete without hearing American Pie and Heartache Tonight.

What were your Party Anthems???

December Song Challenge 2011 * Merry Christmas*

Well December is upon us yet again and all of us here at STS would like to wish all of you a
VERY
and a BIG
for all of your support throughout this year.

So we all thought that it would be an idea to base December's song challenge on CHRISTMAS...
The girls have come up with some great songs to inspire you

First up we have BB.......who has chosen the all time classic "OH CHRISTMAS TREE"

Merry Christmas and a Happy new Year to you ALL from ME
There are a lot of versions of this song that have been made but I have decided to go with the version from the ever so popular TV show "Glee".......

And here is my layout -

I decided to make a christmas tree using doilies, glitter, pearls and glitter glass.
While I was composing the layout I kept singing the song in my head so I thought it fitted the challenge really well and was a good interpretation of the song.
I look forward to seeing everyone's christmas themed layouts and I wish you all the best for the festive season and a prosperous 2012

Sunshine and Happiness Always............BBxx

Next we have
Mary

Hello everyone,
Can't believe it is nearly Xmas again!  I decided to go with a not so traditional song, but one that I love and it's one of those songs I can't get out of my head when I hear it . I chose John Lennons "So this is Xmas"

.

and this is my layout

I would like to wish everyone a Safe and Happy Xmas and a Peaceful, Healthy & Prosperous New Year

Cheers
Mary x

Hello Kim, here
My Christmas song is a true classic

It always reminds me of the building excitement towards Christmas....

It is a truly wonderful time of the year....

Wishing you all a Very Merry Christmas and a bigger and brighter New Year....xxxx

Gorgeous work girls. As soon as I think of christmas I think of the big old man that visits us each year. My boys are 3 and 2 this year and a really starting to get into the christmas spirit now.
So of course I had to choose 'Santa Claus is Coming to Town'. Like many christmas songs and carols there are numerous versions but I had to choose this version by one of my faves, the scrummy Michael Buble.

and here is my take:

I chose a photo of Brian with Ethan at his first christmas pageant waiting to catch a glimps of Father Christmas.

Wishing you all a glorious Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year

Hi all and here is my song for the December/Christmas Challenge. One of my fav carols has always been "Deck the Halls"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-s3QigQz_Ww&feature=related

I always sing it when I am putting up the Xmas lights, but the verse that I have chosen to use on my page, "Is don ye now our gay apparel" as it so suits this beautiful pic of my great neice Lailah all dressed up to visit with Santa.
I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, a fantastic New Year and thankyou for your support and so looking forward to seeing you in 2012.
Hugs and love
Annette xo

Julene here,
My choice of song for Christmas is "We need a little Christmas": from the movie "Mame". it always reminds me of watching the carols on Tv on CHristmas Eve as they often sing this song.
 Here's the link  http://www.links2love.com/lyrics-we-need-a-little-christmas.htm
and here's the words

Haul out the holly,
Put up the tree before
My spirit falls again
Fill up the stocking,
I may be rushing things,
But deck the halls again now.

For we need a little Christmas,
Right this very minute,
Candles in the window,
Carols at the spinet,
Yes, we need a little Christmas,
Right this very minute,
It hasn't snowed a single flurry,
But Santa, dear, we're in a hurry.

Climb down the chimney,
Turn on the brightest string
Of lights I've ever seen,
Slice up the fruitcake,
It's time we hung some tinsel
On the evergreen bough.

For I've grown a little leaner,
Grown a little colder,
Grown a little sadder,
Grown a little older,
And I need a little angel
Sitting on my shoulder,
Need a little Christmas now.

For we need a little music,
Need a little laughter,
Need a little singing,
Ringing through the rafter,
And we need a little snappy
Happy ever after,
Need a little Christmas now.

My layout echoes the theme even though the words don't exactly match those in the song...
Finally, Fondest Christmas wishes to all of you and may the blessings of Christmas be with you.Have a wonderful new Year and we hope to see you again next year for more challenges.

Rebekkah here..

For my song choice i chose an artist i adore and one of my favourite songs of hers...

Winter Song

Its such a beautiful song..
and here is my layout.. i was inspired by the meaning of the song..

We thank you for your support with STS this year, we hope you have given you all a few challenges to sink your teeth into. Very Merry Christmas to all and safe holidays throughout the festive season.
Looking forward to bringing more challenges in 2012..

Bek and the team at STS !

Nearly another New Month!

Wow can't believe Christmas is sneaking up so quickly, well now its kinda of rushing along not sneaking!
Don't forget to check out the blog in the next couple of days for The new Song choices for the month of Dec. I have had a little sneak peek and the girls have come up with some awesome songs and fabulous layouts. Shhhhh I better not divulge any more.

I was thinking today how when doing a layout a song usually pops into my head. I was doing a layout the other night of my Best Friend and myself when we were young and carefree, and the song "Those were the days my friend, by Mary Hopkins popped into my head. Does this happen when you scrap? How sad would this world be without Music. It evokes memories, happiness, sadness, melancholy. Music is  just flaming amazing. I love it, and I will let you in on a little secret, if I had a wish I would wish I could sing like Adele, have the audience in the palm of my hand like Bono, send chills down someones spine like KD Lang when she sings Hallelujah. And guess what , I am possibly the worst singer EVER! So that sucks. Anyway enjoy a bit of KD Lang and also stay tuned in the next few days for the winner of this months Challenge

Sweet Hey
Wishing you Sunshine , Smiles and Sweet Musci

Well I love a rainy night

Listening to the wind howling and the sound of the rain against the windows always makes me think of rainy type songs and the one that comes to mind all the time is Eddie Rabbitt and "I love a rainy night" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJ1GQFtHGxU and of course who could forget The Cascades with "Rhythm of the Falling Rain" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJ1GQFtHGxU.

There are so many songs that can chart the weather in our lives for good or bad.

In summer I am always, much to the despair of my fellow team members, doing my best Lesley Gore version of "Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9RptJaOrZew&feature=related

So when the weather is doing it's thing what songs do you hum, sing out loud or just think about.

Don't forget to get your entries in for the November Challenges, only one week left.

Cheers Annette x

My take on one of our songs this month.

When I saw "My girl" I remembered I had done a layout on this song using wire and tiny beads.Erica was about 12 and loved the movie of the same name starring Macauley Culkin. She chose the colour scheme(purple of course!).I hope you like my interpretation.Maybe you can work on a monochromatic layout too! Don't forget to get those layouts in ladies and it is great to see the number of followers is on the rise.If you like our site tell your friends and LIKE us on Facebook.

Music as advertising

Just recently but not more so than ususal, I suppose, music has played an amazing part in advertising for TV. The effect of this is that it can make or in some cases break a song and you also have the song stuck in your head for days and everytime you hear it you remember the show.

Two recent ones that have stuck on me are "Rolling in the Deep" Adele, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYEDA3JcQqw  which has been the theme song for Underbelly Razor http://channelnine.ninemsn.com.au/underbelly/ which was a series that I really enjoyed.

Then we have "Moves like Jagger" Marron 5 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEPTlhBmwRg&ob=av2e for the Frozen Planet http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00mfl7n who doesn't see penguins now when they hear this.

So what song do you have that makes you think of a show or movie?

Don't forget to check out our awesome song titles for this months challenges.

Well hello again my lovelies and welcome to the latest challenges for Scrap That Song.
My song choice for this month is "What's New Pussycat" by Tom Jones http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBdSqk78nHw and I have to admit that this is not one of my favs of him but the lyrics are just so perfect for this gorgeous pic of our kitten, Lotus, which was taken with my iphone one morning while she was sitting on my chest looking out the bedroom window.

"What's New Pussycat"

What's new pussycat? Woah, Woah
What's new pussycat? Woah, Woah
Pussycat, Pussycat
I've got flowers
And lots of hours
To spend with you.
So go and powder your cute little pussycat nose!
Pussycat, Pussycat
I love you
Yes, I do!
You and your pussycat nose!
What's new pussycat? Woah, Woah
What's new pussycat? Woah, Woah
Pussycat, Pussycat
You're so thrilling
And I'm so willing
To care for you.
So go and make up your cute little pussycat face!
Pussycat, Pussycat
I love you
Yes, I do!
You and your pussycat face!
What's new pussycat? Woah, Woah
What's new pussycat? Woah, Woah
Pussycat, Pussycat
You're delicious
And if my wishes
Can all come true
I'll soon be kissing your sweet little pussycat lips!
Pussycat, Pussycat
I love you
Yes, I do!
You and your pussycat lips!
You and your pussycat eyes!
You and your pussycat nose!

Used kraft, leftover piece of Sass Lass from the Mix and Mend collection, Kaiser rubbon, stamping and flicks of glimmer mist.
So I hope that this will maybe help to inspire you to scrap that pic of your little pussycat, cheers Annette xo

Halloween .....2011 (")

Happy Halloween to those who take part in this mostly American tradition

.

For our family it is a very special day.... Happy Birthday Mason!!!
back on this day in 1996 we welcomed our 3rd son, Mason Scott Ewins into the world.
I hear you ask what does music have to do with this????    Well it's a very special story to me and I shall tell you about it...
In May 1994 I lost my beautiful mother to cancer. During her life she had been quite an avid John Farnham fan...I recall road trips with her singing with much passion...
Your the Voice was one of her fav's

Fast forward to 1996.....7 days overdue....doctor tells me at appointment to meet her at hospital the following morning for induction...was a little worried due to many horror stories I had heard about inductions...
But without a doubt the best labour I would ever have...with my others I had gone at least 12 hours in labour...
within 3 hours we were almost there. Roy and a wonderful midwife (Teresa) by my side....The local radio station was playing softly, to make everyone feel alittle bit more at ease. Final stage Teresa said to me as the contraction eased a little another good push and baby will be born.
As he came into the world  Your the Voice  played on the radio...Mum was with me!!!....She gave me a special sign and the other special thing  the 31st October   was also her birthday.
You know I still miss her very much...how different my life and my children's lives would have been...sigh! But I know she is with me in spirit...(love U Mum)
So have you ever had something similar happen to you?

Before I go a little sneaky peek of my layout for tomorrow......

O.K beautiful scrappy pals....until tomorrow

Music is a powerful tool

Hi lovely People,

I was thinking about what I was going to Post today and logged onto facebook and the lovely Leanne J http://addictedtoclouds.blogspot.com/ had shared some awsome songs ( she has got me onto some fabulous artists, thanks Leanne :) . Anyway it got me thinking how music can unite the world , watch this amazing clip

Isnt that fabulous, makes my heart smile

And then it can change a persons life,

Can just touch your soul

that clip made me cry& gives me goosebumps every single time I watch it, see Music is such a powerful, beautiful thing. I hope these clips have touched your heart in some way today. Thats why I love to use words , titles or convey a feeling in my layouts by music. I just find I need to have music playing while I scrap to put me in the creative moment. Music simply makes the world a better place to be in and thats gotta be a good thing,  So wishing you all Music in your soul

Don't you just love it .......

....when you get a song stuck in your head for days???

Well sometimes yep, other times it's just plain annoying!

I have had this song by Maroon 5 in my head for the last 3 or 4 days! Great song but geez brain I think it's time to change the record please!

I pretty much always have a song running around in my head. Sometimes it's a whole song, other times it might just be a few note of a tune or a line or two form a song. It's really annoying when I can't place the song though!

I can clearly remember when Eli was little I had a couple of weeks when every time I'd be up at about 3am breastfeeding Eli I'd have the Thomas The Tank Engine theme tune in my head! For two weeks!!!!

What songs do you get stuck in your head???

Take Care

Where do you go to????

It is amazing how songs/music can have the ability, in an instance, to transport us to a time in our past, that we have completely forgotten about.
When checking out some music on Youtube I stumbled across this song "Coco Jambo" by Mr President http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bY-oMCmrvPM  and remembered a great moment from a holiday to Port Macquarie with an ex. We were driving back to our motel and came to a roundabout and I turned the wrong way, we ended up driving through an industrial area, it was late at night, dark, we had the windows down, I could smell the salt in the air, the car was a Mitsubishi Mirage, we had had a fantastic day and this was the song on the radio, which I was singing out loud. It was such a great holiday in one of my fav towns and I just love that something like a song can make me remember so much.
So where do you go to when you hear a certain song? Do some of the choices in our October Challenge take you out of yourself? We would love to know. Cheers Annette x

A technique to use up scraps.

I was machining yesterday when I came up with the idea of using up my small strips of paper and card.I save them all!
In a random order I sewed them to white cardstock, following a colour theme. In this case it was purple but you could use random brights. Then I tore each side of the strips to create the effect.
I matted a photo on cream so it would stand out and chose black for the title."Torn" came to mind...the song by Natalie Imbruglia  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VV1XWJN3nJo
The photo was taken at Broken Hill airport when I was saying farewell to the Purplescraps girls at the end of a recent retreat. So in a way I was torn away from there.Total cost of this layout was 10c  for the photo! Try it you'll like it..Happy scrapping from .Julene aka Joolz

First....memory of a song?

   Happy Monday!!!
Scrappy Friends, (Kimbo here).....So I was thinking last night about what to type today and about music/songs and I thought what was the first POPULAR music I really wanted to listen too?

The cogs started turning, (they are pretty rusty...you know...lol)....back - back - back in time I went and then it came to me....Can you guess???
I recall lending some vinyl records from my mum's B/F so I could listen to them on our portable record player.....and it was ABBA!
 http://youtu.be/xFrGuyw1V8s

Dancing Queen was played like a million times in the space of a day or so.....sigh!
In a moment I was transported way back in time to when I was....like 8 years old.
A year or so later I remember being so-so-in love with the Village People (You Can't Stop The Music)...I was so going to marry The Cowboy...hehehe!
(Little did my best friend, Wanda and I know....sigh.... I was so crushed).
Love how music takes you back in time to a moment.

Can you recall what song it was for you or what record/cd you first bought...???
Let us know what it was.

Also please have a look at our D/T October Song List they are pretty darn Coolio.

Thanks for stopping by and call back real soon.
Cheers and happy scrapping

Hello Mary here, last month Bek asked the DT to scrap a layout using a song that was special to them regarding their partner/wedding. It could be a wedding song, the first song you danced to, along those lines. Well I scrapped the song I DIDNT have at my wedding. For the details of this little story visit my blog http://mbennetts.blogspot.com/ and this is my layout

Cant wait to see what the other girls have come up with.
Dont forget to choose one of the many songs from this months list.
Happy Scrapping
Mary x

Hey Creative Peeps,
BB here - I have serious trouble scrapping anything "Lovey Dovey" that has to do with my husband so this challenge was a really big process for me. Don't get me wrong I love my husband with all my heart but everytime I look at him he makes me laugh so i find it really hard to be serious when i am scrapping about him - BTW on our wedding day when he was saying his vows I could not look at him in fear of laughing ( bad I know).
I got my inspiration from the talented Danielle Quarmby - she is amazing. And my song is an old 70's song by Peter Frampton 'Baby I Love Your Way' - check it out.

Check out my blog for closies - Have a Happy Scrappy weekend
BBxx

Yello..yello...scrappy peeps, Kim here!!!
Aren't the above two layouts so totally awesome....love Mare Bare's song she didn't have and BB I have the same problem...sigh...I'm not mushie type??? (well not really).
Decided to do a wedding layout...which alot of you have already seen .....'cause I HAD to share as soon as I finished it.
So I have lots of songs for Roy and I but.....Everything I do, I Do It For You, (Bryan Adams) is very spesh as that is the song I chose to walk down the aisle too.

{Nowhere Unless Your There}

Thanks for stopping bye and have a fab weekend

Please have a go at our awesome playlist for October.....inspiration.

Song choice inspiration... a song that sticks in your head..

Hi all..

Well its my turn to post up and i was thinking of a song title that you can get out of your head. Mine are always the vegemite song and the aeroplane jelly song he he .. i dont know why but they come to mind alot. Especially when i make Trini her sandwiches.

so heres my layout...

Photos a little squew wiff.. but you get that.. lol.
and closes up of the cluster..

So, in response to a question on fb i had a little while ago which was "how do you use inspiration from a song?".. it is like this for me personally... i can hear a song and its like a slideshow in my head. It usually stirs up a memory for me and with that i go looking for photos that suit then i find my colours that correspond.. so you get the drift.
i usually have the title in my head usually from the song title or the lyrics but you can be inspired by the feeling it creates for you or the memory you have of the song.
In this case mine was inspired by the song itself and i had photos of trin eating her sandwich, so it wasnt that hard..
I also used some of my yummy green stash so that was easy too !
i love green and pink ..

Well hopefully this has given you some ideas on how to approach our challenges.

May The Force Be With You..........................

Hi Peeps,
BB here and it's my turn to inspire you............(hopefully)
I thought I would shake things up a bit for this challenge so i decided to go with one of the most well known movie themes of all time

Babbabadadadadadadada..............are you humming yet?
Here is the link incase you don't know the tune

Yep - no words - are you challenged yet?
I drew inspiration from I think it is the second original movie (Episode V) when Luke gets captured by the abominable snowman (Yeti ) thingy.

How cute is she? I could not resist.
For some close ups you can look on my blog

There are some great songs to choose from this month and I can't wait to see what you all come up with.
A big congrats goes out to Jessie Mack for winning last months challenge ( don't forget to email Beck your address)

Till next time..........May the force be with you
